by Loans : The Indian government has launched a new scheme called Lakhpati Didi Yojana to promote financial independence among women. Under this scheme, eligible women can avail of interest-free loans of up to ₹5 lakh. As long as the loan is repaid within the stipulated period, no interest will be charged.
Additionally, the scheme provides skill development training in various fields, helping women establish their own businesses. These training programs are conducted through women’s self-help groups (SHGs), ensuring proper guidance and support.
Since its launch in August 2023, the scheme has benefited over one crore women. Initially aimed at supporting two crore women, the overwhelming response led to its expansion to three crore beneficiaries.
To apply for this loan, women must submit the required documents at their nearest SHG office. The necessary documents include Aadhaar card, PAN card, income proof, and bank passbook.
Similarly, the Andhra Pradesh government has introduced the YSR Sunna Vaddi scheme, which offers interest-free loans to women in self-help groups. Launched in 2020, this initiative has already benefited lakhs of women across the state.
These government programs play a crucial role in enhancing women’s financial independence and empowering them to build sustainable livelihoods.
