Shami played for India in the ODI World Cup 2023 but couldn’t play in the series against New Zealand before that. He was hoping to come back for this tournament, but the doctors said he isn’t healthy enough to play right now.

The doctors at the BCCI have been helping Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami get better after he had surgery on his right heel. They said that Shami is now all better and can play again!
Shami came back to play cricket for his team after some time. In a big game against Madhya Pradesh, he bowled for a long time, throwing the ball 43 times. He also played in all nine games of another tournament called the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. To get ready for the bigger matches coming up, he practiced even more by throwing the ball on the side.
His left knee is a little puffy because he has been using it a lot while bowling.
“Swelling is a expecteed due to increase bowling loads after a long period. Based on the current medical assessment, the BCCI medical team has determined that his knee requires more time to be subjected to controlled bowling loads.
The statement from the BCCI said that he is not ready to play in the last two games of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Shami will keep doing special exercises to get stronger, with help from the doctors at the cricket academy. He needs to practice his bowling a lot to be ready for the longer games. Whether he can play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy will depend on how well his knee gets better.
